Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)
More and more customers are requesting and requiring that products have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which is why NCC is developing them for a growing proportion of our own products.
EPDs are third-party verified and include transparent and comparable environmental impact information throughout a product’s lifecycle, from the extraction of stone and other raw materials to delivery to customers and, ultimately, recycling.
As a result, customers obtain a transparent and comparable lifecycle assessment of the product. Customers gain access to objective and reliable data and can thus assess the products’ environmental performance. This makes it easier for the customers to make environmentally conscious choices and reduce their climate footprint.
NCC’s EPDs are location and product-specific, which also enables NCC to use the EPDs internally to make fact-based climate and environmental improvements in its production processes.
NCC’s Environmental Product Declarations
The NCC Industry business area formulates plant and quarry-specific EPDs for asphalt and stone materials. There are currently 61 EPDs published for asphalt plants, and for individual asphalt mixtures, with Norway and Denmark included from 2023. We have also published EPDs for stone materials from a total of 35 of our quarries. 22 in Sweden, six in Denmark, five in Norway and two in Finland. We plan to continue producing EPDs for more plants and quarries.
