Today, over a third of all Swedes aged between seven and seventy are active members of a sports club. The proportion of sporting youngsters is a health seventy percent. The trend is clear – the need for everyone to get their fix of exercise is rising. And to meet that need, more sports halls are going to be required.

Leisure pools are one of the building types that face the greatest stresses and strains. Thanks to experience amassed from previous projects, we know which technical solutions are best at handling the challenges involved in building and operating a leisure pool. Design that lasts
NCC’s leisure pools are equally an experience for the visitor and a workplace for the staff who are there every day. The facilities thus need to be easy to clean. The materials have to be hard-wearing and long-lasting, and the logistics have to work. At the same time, the leisure pool should be fun, enjoyable, easy to navigate around and accessible to everyone. High architectural ambition and tried and tested technical solutions are key features of NCC’s leisure pools. The high standard helps bring in good visitor numbers and positive revenues over many years.

Sjöbo badhus – great teamwork
During the years 2014–2016, NCC built a new swimming facility in Sjöbo Municipality based on three pillars: swimming lessons, public health and a swimming club. The facility consists of a 25-meter pool, a multi-purpose pool, a children’s pool and associated changing rooms. There is also a smartly designed staff room with good views over the pools, a café and a leisure department featuring a sauna, experience showers and jacuzzi with a view over the neighboring park.
With a strong focus on close collaboration from all parties right from the outset, Sjöbo leisure pool made the very best of the partnering form of collaboration, which entailed high levels of transparency and minimized risks. Read more about this successful partnership.
Ystad badhus – exercise and fun for all the family
In the years 2012–2014, NCC built a new leisure pool in Ystad, in a close partnering collaboration with Ystad Municipality. The new pool replaced the municipality’s old leisure pool, which dated back to the 1950s. The pool is next to two new sports halls, which were also built by NCC. Ystad leisure pool offers, among other things, a heated pool, children’s pool, water slides, wave channel, multi-purpose pool, climbing wall, exercise pool with trampolines and a dry sauna and steam room.
