“We are pleased to deepen our partnership with NCC and continue construction work with a new pre-school and school as well as the creation of a meeting point for Sundborn. For us, investing in rural areas is important. Here, we are investing in Sundborn in a combined effort with the companies in the municipal group to achieve the best possible benefit for the residents of Sundborn,” says Paula Aspfors, chairman of the Falu Municipal Services Committee.

NCC’s contract includes the demolition of existing buildings, which has already been completed, and the construction of a new school and sports hall. The new two-story school building will have a total area of approximately 7,000 square meters and will accommodate 240 students from pre-school to grade 6. The school building will house areas for education, a kitchen and a canteen. The building will have a wooden facade and a hybrid frame of laminated timber, steel and concrete.  

“There are major advantages to building schools in partnering form, which is something we can see already with the Sundborn School. Here, in close cooperation with Falu Municipality, we have already identified several opportunities for reuse and energy savings. For example, we will recycle the window glass from the old school, which reduces carbon emissions by as much as 50 percent compared with newly manufactured windows," says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

Construction began in September 2023 and the new school is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025 and ready for occupancy for the start of the spring semester in 2026. The total order value is approximately SEK 265 million, and will be registered among orders in the third quarter of 2023 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
