NCC dedicates week to health and safety

Safety drills, lectures and NCC’s safety competition to promote innovative solutions for better health and safety at NCC. These are some of the events planned for NCC’s Health and Safety Week, which starts today and is in its third consecutive year.

“Health and safety are at the top of our agenda at NCC as we strive to realize our vision of zero work-related accidents. To accomplish this, our vision needs to be firmly rooted at the very top of the company and all the way out to our production sites. It boils down to our leaders being role models and to all of us at NCC creating a culture that ensures that we are safe at work,” says Lars-Gunnar Larsson, Head of Health and Safety at NCC.

Starting today and for the remainder of the week, each of NCC’s more than 3,000 projects will dedicate time to various exercises, lectures, rescue training courses and health and safety walks at production sites. In the offices around the Nordics, the main focus will be on organizational and social work environment.

For the third year running, NCC is also holding its Pioneering Safety competition, in which all NCC employees can submit suggestions that can prevent accidents or increase safety at our workplaces.

“The Pioneering Safety competition is about developing innovative solutions at our projects that promote health and safety. Since we started this initiative, we have developed several fantastic solutions that have increased safety and simultaneously created better conditions for more efficient and profitable projects,” says Tomas Carlsson, CEO of NCC.

The Pioneering Safety competition is arranged in cooperation with our own insurance company NCC Försäkring AB, and aims to raise awareness among all employees that large and small measures that reduce the risk of injury can also contribute to increased efficiency and profitability.

Entries may include existing safety measures that can be improved or ideas that have not previously been used and that a coworker wants to test. Each year, NCC announces a winner who will share a total of SEK 500,000 to cover the cost of implementing the ideas. The Linaberg project in Stockholm, with the Unloading bridge concept, was a previous winner. The bridge increases safety and agility when loading and unloading goods. It is movable and is fitted with wires for safety harnesses that prevent falls. The bridge can be extended and adapted to the vehicle.
