In August, NCC and Region Västmanland agreed to construct a new emergency hospital in Västerås in partnering form. In an initial phase, the parties conducted the preparatory planning. The next project planning phase is now commencing to prepare detailed documentation for the construction work.
“At this stage of the project our solid experience of many advanced hospital construction projects will really be of use, making sure that both the process and end result meet the expectations of both patients and staff,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.
On February 15, the Regional Council for Region Västmanland took the decision to invest in the construction of the new emergency hospital. The Region’s total budget is approximately SEK 6.8 billion, and the construction assignment will account for part of this amount.
The new emergency hospital is being constructed to meet future healthcare requirements in Västmanland. It is planned that the hospital will contain operating rooms, radiology, an emergency clinic, maternity facilities, intensive care unit, ward beds and clinics. The hospital buildings will encompass about 75,000 square meters and will be constructed on the Västerås hospital campus.
“We are now entering the next phase of the work in which we, together with Region Västmanland, will continue to plan and create the best conditions for a successful project to enable the start of construction of the new hospital buildings later in the year,” says Henrik Landelius.
Project planning is expected to continue until the spring of 2024. In parallel with the project planning, separate construction contracts will be signed for four subprojects subsequently. Construction and ground-breaking is scheduled for the autumn of 2022.
The order value for the project planning phase amounts to approximately SEK 250 million and will be registered among orders for the second quarter of 2022 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
