Construction of Laajasalo’s new local centre starts – to be completed in November 2018
NCC builds a new local centre next to the one currently existing in Laajasalo. The two-level building will have totally 30 stores. Daily groceries HOK-Elanto and Ruokakesko operating in the existing building will move and get larger spaces in the new shopping centre.
The local centre is designed as a well-lit and inspiring new venue for the residents of the area who can expand their shopping experience in a cosy environment. To date, a place like that has been missing from Laajasalo. The new local centre will have approximately 8,200 square metres of retail space to let. The building is clear-cut and easy to navigate, with 230 parking spots for bikes and a total of 200 parking spaces located in the yard area and the parking garage. The existing bus stop and the light rail stop planned for 2022 will be situated right at the local centre.
- We, the city developers at NCC, are fascinated by the strong growth of Laajasalo. The new local centre has a lot of attractive power. Already 80 percent of the premises are pre-let, and negotiations are pending on several more tenancies, Country Manager Petri Bergström of NCC Property Development says.
A growing district needs good services
There are currently 18,000 people living in Laajasalo, but the area is growing and expected to have totally 35,000 residents mainly owing to the new residential quarters of Kruunuvuorenranta.
– The residents of Laajasalo are already our customers and we want to serve them in the best possible way also in the future, Area Director Antti Palomäki of Kesko states.
Lease agreements on retail spaces at Laajasalo's new local centre are currently signed by Fitness24Seven, the City of Helsinki on services such as the library, youth club and park-and-ride facilities, Kotipizza, K-supermarket, a beauty parlour and a podiatrician, Marian Konditoria, Hair Today and Laajasalong; Pallogrilli Restaurant, Scote Brew Café, laundries Sisu Pesu and SOL Pesula, Subway and S-Market.
– Laajasalo is a central retail site where our customers have long hoped for an S-market. This is possible now, and we will be able to offer them the wide product range of a large S-market unit, tailored to the customers' wishes, naturally also at steady, affordable prices, Chain Manager of HOK-Elanto Kimmo Nikula says.
The new local centre also has its environmental matters well taken care of.
– The retail sites developed by us have environmental rating. Laajasalo's local centre will be built by the BREEAM environmental rating criteria, and we will apply for the Very Good certificate for it. NCC strives to reduce the environmental impacts of construction, thus creating added value both to the customer and the society, Petri Bergström from NCC says.
