From real estate to asphalt - meet Emil at NCC Industry
The path from real estate to asphalt projects may seem long. And perhaps it is. Meet Operation Manager Emil Bjørkly Olufsen that made the choice seven years ago and hasn't regretted it for a second. Nowadays he devotes wintertime to thorough preparations to secures a successful asphalt season.
After a steep learning curve, Emil is now an experienced and central resource in NCC's asphalt business, Area Trøndelag.
"I am part of a well-knit team that knows their tasks and how to find good solutions. We receive positive feedback from our customers, and we see that our asphalt projects are carried out well and according to plan. It is, of course, very satisfying to receive such positive feedback," says Emil Bjørkly Olufsen.
Time to win contracts
It is during the winter months that the foundation for the asphalt season is laid with calculation work, strategy selection, and preparations. While Trondheim fills up with skiers and the Ski World Championships in February, Emil is fully occupied with calculations and preparations for this year's asphalt season and gives some examples:
“What should we go for? What should we choose to exclude? The plan is set, and the priorities are made. Now the right asphalt contracts need to be won.”
In recent years, NCC's asphalt business in Trøndelag has seen very positive development, and with a state-of-the-art asphalt plant with pellet firing, NCC can deliver highly competitive products and solutions in the market.
"There is great interest and attention around solutions that can contribute to lower CO2 emissions, and we win contracts because we can deliver EPDs that document CO2 cuts."
A good and winning work environment
Area Trøndelag has consciously focused on building a winning work culture, and Emil believes that NCC's Star behaviors have made the business stand strong and deliver good projects for customers.
"Our Star behaviors describe what we can expect from each other and what customers can expect from us. It sets guidelines for how we interact and contributes to a high level of performance," he says, believing it is an important contribution to success.
Understanding your market
But he emphasizes that customer needs varies a lot, and it requires good customer and market understanding.
“Good interaction with customers, thorough planning, and then executing according to plan is the key to good asphalt projects. Additionally, it is about being able to see the big picture, think strategically, and understand what is happening in the market,” concludes Operation Manager Emil Bjørkly Olufsen.
